Blue Mountains Live Podcast – October 9th, 2025: Urban Guerillas & Tap Hammer

It’s another jam-packed episode of Blue Mountains Live with your host, Brad Diedrich (The Professor), joined by regular guest Ken Stewart from the Urban Guerillas and Reyhn 'Revvy' Marvin  from Tap Hammer — two bands keeping the Blue Mountains music scene buzzing!

First up, Brad catches up with Ken Stewart for a lively chat about the Urban Guerillas’ upcoming show at The Royal in Springwood (Saturday, October 11th). They dive into the band’s new material, their signature live energy, and a few mod classics they’re throwing into the setlist for die-hard fans. Ken gives a sneak peek at the group’s recording process and hints at a new album in the works — all while keeping that trademark Guerrillas spirit of fun, spontaneity, and audience connection.

Later, Brad welcomes Reyhn  Marvin from Tap Hammer, fresh off the release of their powerful new single and video “Longer Now.” Rian talks about working with filmmaker Justin from Near Film Videography and drone artist JB Fly High, creating a raw, Blue Mountains–style performance clip that captures the band’s electric live energy. The band is gearing up for an all-ages gig at Tibby Whelan Hall in Katoomba alongside Lyre Lyre and Manifest, promising an explosive night of local talent and original music.

From seasoned rockers to rising young bands, this episode celebrates the pulse of live music in the Mountains — from Springwood to Katoomba and beyond.

🎶 Featuring music by Urban Guerillas (“Invitation”) and Tap Hammer (“Hustler” and "Longer Now").

Blue Mountains Live - The podcast of this Week's Episode with Carl Hemmings aka The Greater Tapestry

This week on Blue Mountains Live, The Professor welcomed local singer-songwriter Carl Hemmings, known musically as The Greater Tapestry, for a wide-ranging conversation that dives deep into the craft of songwriting, life in the indie scene of the '90s, and his creative resurgence here in the mountains.
Carl shares the story of his musical journey — from playing in punk and indie rock bands in his 20s, to raising a family in the mountains while quietly honing his songwriting skills, and now stepping boldly back into the spotlight with a powerful new single, “High Water Mark”, produced by Timothy Haye. Their collaboration is creating beautifully crafted indie-folk with what Carl calls a “limited palette sound” — rich, focused, and emotionally resonant.
We also hear about Carl’s upcoming release, “Eagle’s Flight at Night”, due out in just a few weeks, and his presence online under The Greater Tapestry across Facebook, Instagram, Spotify, and Apple Music. Don’t miss his live streams and updates as he gears up for more local gigs.
Plus, as always, The Professor wraps up with the weekly Gig Guide, pointing you toward the best live music around the Mountains — and maybe a few suggestions for where Carl should take the stage next (hint: On The Soul Side Café, The Alex, and Hotel Etico are all on the radar).
Tune in, turn it up, and support your local music scene!

In this lively end-of-month edition of Blue Mountains Live, we catch up with the always delightful Kellie Mar, Marketing Officer at Blue Mountains Theatre, for our regular update on what’s hitting the stage in Springwood. Despite battling the flu (and surviving on Cadbury Creme Eggs and cinnamon-laced hot cross buns), Kellie shares a feast of upcoming performances guaranteed to warm hearts as the Blue Mountains weather turns chilly.
First up, she previews the breathtaking "Taikoz presents: Mirror Mirror", a high-energy fusion of taiko drumming, multimedia projection, and acrobatic dance, landing on stage Saturday, May 4th. Kellie describes it as a “multi-sensory, immersive experience” not to be missed — and tickets are selling fast.
We also get the scoop on:
"Morning Melodies" (Wed 14 May): a Mediterranean musical journey featuring award-winning opera and crossover singers, complete with complimentary morning tea.
Blue Mountains Musical Society's production of "Come From Away" (24 May – 8 June): a heartfelt, real-life inspired Broadway hit set in Gander, Newfoundland in the wake of 9/11, full of Celtic energy and uplifting storytelling.
Then we cross to our second guest, visiting singer-songwriter Scott Gibson, who’ll be performing live across the mountains this weekend. Catch him Saturday at The Velvet Fog in Katoomba and The Factory Bar, part of the Blue Mountains Gin Company, and Sunday afternoon at the beautifully eclectic RoseyRavelston Bookshop in Lawson. With his rootsy style and warm stage presence, Scott’s performances promise to be the perfect soundtrack to your autumn weekend.
